A 38 gun frigate, one of a large class of frigates which when well commanded were very successful vessels. Hull is cast in resin and has brass etched ratlines, assembly instructions and sail template. Brass etched sails are available as an optional extra, see MTC06.
The Africaine was designed and built by R A Haran at Rochfort in 1795 along with Preneuse, 1794 and Themis, 1796 at Bayonne. Both Preneuse and Africaine were captured in 1799 and 1801 respectively. The Africaine was noted as a fast sailor and able to carry six months stores easily
