The West Indiaman would be around 120ft long and ply trade to the West Indies, Mediterranean, Baltic, India and China. They would be armed with a dozen or more guns and with a crew of around 30. This West Indiaman vessel depicts a ship around 120ft long from the late 1790s and is representative of the type of merchant man between the large East Indiaman and the smaller Bark. These ships of about 330 tons traded to the West Indies, Mediterranean, Baltic and were the type known as Country ships which traded between India and China. These ships would be armed with about a dozen or more guns and a crew of around 30+.
